GRAND RAPIDS, Mich — We had fun getting to know this week’s Meijer Scholar Athlete and we saw firsthand why everyone she plays with calls her a great teammate.
Sami DeKuiper is a senior at Rockford, checking in with a 4.1 GPA. On the basketball court, she has no problems taking charge but she says the key to her success is being able to relate to everyone she plays with. It’s a skill that's allowed her to make great friendships with whomever she plays with.
“It’s definitely helped me in high school," she explains. "I can connect with all my teammates in different ways. Going to a new college with new people, that will be really beneficial to be able to meet new people and create relationships with them, so I’m very lucky to have that trait.”
DeKuiper says she wants to become a physical therapist after college.
