MUSKEGON, Mich. — Our next Meijer Scholar Athlete of the week knows what it takes to handle a heavy course load and play multiple sports.
Muskegon Catholic Central High School student Catherine Cone has a ton on her plate.
The senior Crusader plays three sports during the year: volleyball, cross country and soccer.
On top of that is she is the treasurer of her senior class and is in the national honor society with a 3.6 GPA.
Cone hopes to someday be a mental health counselor to help people with what she has been through.
"Mainly because of my own experiences that I have had with mental health," Cone said. "School and sports is a lot. I feel like in this day and age student athletes are expected to be so much better than what they can give sometimes. It effects your game play. It effects how well you do in school because if you are not in the right state of mind it can affect how well you play and how much you want to play or how much you want to do in school."
Cone hopes to get a master's degree in clinical social work. She's applied to GVSU, Aquinas, Calvin, Michigan and Kuyper but is not sure where she is going just yet.
