ZEELAND, Mich. — The newest Meijer Scholar Athlete of the week might be a little soft spoken but his actions speak for themselves.
Zeeland West High School student Trenten Bolhouse is a three-sport star, playing football, basketball and baseball.
He is also an avid fisherman, and even once caught an eight-foot bull shark in the Atlantic Ocean.
When Bolhouse is not fishing or playing sports, he is hitting the books. He is a big fan of math and science, and is, particularly, a big fan of physics.
He is a delegate in the student senate and in the school's national honor society with a 4.4 G.P.A. That is good enough to be the salutatorian of his class.
Bolhouse says being a good student athlete is all about having the drive to succeed.
"It is definitely something I pride myself on is to excel in the classroom and the court as well," Bolhouse said. "It is something I like to do. It is just hard work and dedication and the willingness to show up every day, I feel. It is tough sometimes for sure but battling adversity is how you get better. Just work hard. Be you. See where things fall."
Bolhouse is undecided on his plans for college at the moment. He still is trying to figure out if he will play football at the next level. The Dux star has garnered offers from a few local schools.
His plan is to study environmental engineering wherever he goes because he loves to be on the water and around fish.
