WYOMING, Mich. — The newest Meijer Scholar Athlete of the week is well accomplished in both sports and school.
Tri-Unity Christian High School student Jordan VanKlompenberg shines at everything he does.
In basketball, the senior defender is a two-time state champion. He also ran cross country in the fall and plans to play golf here in the spring.
As for his academics, he is just as impressive. VanKlompenberg is in the top 10 percent of his class with a 4.1 GPA.
He plans on going the pre-med route in college to study either radiology or neurology.
VanKlompenberg said being a good student athlete comes down to dedication.
"Just hard work," VanKlompenberg said. "Focus on school. Make it a priority. I just get my work done. If you get your homework done, you won't do badly on tests. It's not going to be too hard. My parents have always enforced it even since elementary and middle school. Just get good grades. Put your grades before sports. Obviously, put your work in, put your work in for school. Basically, it's hard work. It's easier for some people than others, naturally."
VanKlompenberg is still trying to figure out what he wants to do for school. He says he could either play college basketball locally or just go out west to be a normal college student.
