GRAND HAVEN, Mich. — Our newest Meijer Scholar Athlete of the Week is at the top of her class and has had success with her sport.
Grand Haven High School student Leah Montgomery loves volleyball. She helped the Buccaneers get to their third state quarterfinals ever as a setter.
The senior also shines outside of sports. Montgomery is in student senate, she is president of the Green Club and is in the national honor's society with a 4.1 GPA.
She says being a good student comes down to staying on task.
"I think just managing your time well," Montgomery said. "Figuring out the balance of when you should be focusing on school and when you should be focusing on your sport. Always pay attention in class. I think I have always had it because I have always been in sports and just being in sports you have to know how to do both at the same time. I have just figured it out along the way. Just having the focus and the mindset of working for success at all times."
Montgomery hopes to go to Michigan or Michigan State to study to become an orthodontist. She thinks that is the best way to work with kids and stay in the STEM field.
