Unity Christian dominating on 11-game winning streak

After starting the season 4-4 overall, the Crusaders have now rattled off 11 victories in a row to improve to 15-4 overall.

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. — The Unity Christian High School boys basketball squad might be the hottest team in West Michigan. After starting the season 4-4 overall, the Crusaders have now rattled off 11 victories in a row to improve to 15-4 overall.

While 11 straight wins is certainly something to be proud of, the fact the Crusaders have accomplished that with a battered and bruised lineup is all the more impressive.

"Our kids have been really resilient all year long," Unity Christian head coach Scott Soodsma said. "We have fought injuries. We had a kid probably break his nose tonight and another kid bent his thumb back, might have broke that. It's what we have been dealing with all year. I know it is an old cliche but next man up and see what we got."

It has been a collective team effort to step up with all of the injuries. After their last loss before Christmas, the team came together to work on what they could improve on. It has been high sailing ever since.

"We just work hard," Unity Christian senior Colin Nieuwenhuis said. "We just keep battling. We keep coming to practice every day ready to work and set us up good for a big game on Friday against Coopersville."

That game against Coopersville is sure to be a good one. The Crusaders and Broncos square up on Friday night with first place in the OK Blue conference on the line. Coopersville has won seven straight with its last loss coming to Unity Christian.
