WHITEHALL, Mich. — Impressive. Dominant. Remarkable.
There are many words you can use to describe the Whitehall boys basketball team this season.
The Vikings are 19-0 and sit just three wins away from a perfect regular season. One player on the team hit a major milestone in the process.
Whitehall star Camden Thompson is now the program's all-time leading scorer. He passed Vikings legend Jaren Edsall's mark back in January in a road matchup against Mona Shores to hit the top of the Vikings record books.
This mark did not come during his senior season, but his junior year. However, Thompson says the record is the least of his concerns. He's got hardware on his mind and he aims to take it one game at a time.
"It is great," Thompson said. "It is a little stepping stone in my way. I am just trying to win games and I guess that is what I got for trying to win and my coach trusting in me."
Thompson is quickly becoming a legend at Whitehall.
"It is amazing," Whitehall head coach Christian Subdon said. "He doesn't recognize it as much right now because he is just living in what he is right now with our team. That's great. It is a remarkable accomplishment. Who knows what the guy could finish with at the end of his career."
Thompson is nearly averaging 20 points and 20 rebounds per game this season. Just this week has been recognized by Sports Illustrated as one of 20 breakout high school stars across the country.
