INDIANAPOLIS — On Wednesday Jenison High School senior Sophia Umstead competed at the U.S. swimming Olympic trials in Indianapolis. Umstead finished third in her heat with a time of 2:33.21.

Umstead had the chance to compete with former Olympic swimmer Gabrielle Rose. The 17-year-old qualified for the trials on her last try during the Big Red Challenge at Holland Community Aquatic Center.

Umstead won two state titles for Jenison in the fall and will be swimming for Virginia once her days as a Wildcat are over.
