DETROIT — Fans from around the state made the trek across the mitten to Ford Field for the Lions season of a lifetime.
One die-hard from Muskegon has been coming to Lions games since the last time they won a playoff game.
In 1991, David Runk bought his Lions season tickets. Back then, he witnessed the first Detroit playoff win in 34 years.
He’s only missed a handful of games since then, including last week’s postseason victory over the Rams because of the snow.
The 70-year-old is here this week and is pumped for Lions playoff football.
"It’s really rewarding," Runk said. "This is probably about the best moment in my life right now. I just feel awesome. 70 years old and I think I am finally going to make it to a Super Bowl."
Runk called his shot. The Muskegon Heights High School graduate already bought his tickets to Las Vegas for the biggest game in the sport. He says he's never stopped loving the Lions even after some tough seasons.
"We’ve had our ups and downs but it is always great being a Lions fan even when we were 0-16 we were still Lions fans and we were still here," Runk said. "We were behind them all of the time. We never wavered from it. Don’t get on my bandwagon unless you think you can stay on it. Otherwise, I am throwing you off of it."
Runk has worn his white No. 10 Charlie batch jersey, the same hat and socks for every game in Section 339 seats 3 and 4. He says it’s been good luck for him, and he's going to keep the tradition going.
