DETROIT — If you already have tickets for this weekend's playoff matchup between the Detroit Lions and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, you know it's going to be an expensive trip to Ford Field.
"The Lions are not only good, they're great for once," says Matthew Ferrel, head of marketing for ticket resale website TickPick. "So we're seeing the ticket prices reflect that."
So what is the cost of a playoff Lions team?
On Thursday, the average price of a ticket to the game on TickPick was $1,097. That makes it not only the most expensive divisional round game this year, but the most expensive divisional round game ever.
"It is 107% more expensive than the 49ers-Packers divisional game, which is coming in at about $528," says Ferrel.
The most expensive ticket listed on TickPick on Thursday was for more than $65,000, but most high-end seats were priced closer to $10,000. Even a standing room only seat on the site was listed for about $800.
So why exactly are prices so astronomical?
"There's fewer tickets available for this game than any other divisional round game," says Ferrel. "And it's because people are holding on to their tickets. They want to see the Lions, they want to support the team."
Smaller supply, higher demand, and those costs are driven up.
Costs can fluctuate, though, so if you're looking for a better deal, TickPick suggests using its price track tool to help predict when costs may change.
"We're just trying to do our best to get fans into the building and to make sure Ford Field is as loud as physically possible," says Ferrel.
