ALLENDALE, Mich. — The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) women's basketball team is making a run in the Division 2 NCAA Tournament.
The Lakers have dominated their first two opponents in the tournament, led by Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Player of the Year Rylie Bisballe.
GVSU earned the top seed in the Midwest Regional following a 29-2 season and GLIAC Conference and Conference Tournament Championships.
The Lakers made easy work of Trevecca Nazarene University 63-35 in the first round of the tournament on Friday, March 15. GVSU then took on Northern Michigan University in the regional semifinals Saturday night.
Nicole Kamin racked up a career-tying high 20 points alongside Bisballe's 19 to route the Wildcats 72-44 at home in Allendale.
Now, the Lakers have their biggest test of the tournament yet against their in-state rivals Ferris State University Bulldogs.
The Lakers and Bulldogs have met twice during the regular season, splitting the meetings with both teams winning at home. GVSU only lost by six points in Big Rapids, and trounced the Bulldogs in their rematch in Allendale 63-38.
The Lakers will host the Bulldogs in Allendale tonight, Monday, March 18, at 7 p.m. in the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. The game will be broadcast on WXSP and webcast via pay-per-view on NCAA.com. GVSU says you can also listen to the game on The Ticket, WLCS and Thunder Country.
If the Lakers beat FSU tonight, they will head to Saint Joseph, MO to compete in the Elite Eight next week.
