GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — One might think it's an extra burden when the head coach is your father but that's not the case with this week's Meijer Scholar Athlete.
Kobe Kambestad is a senior at West Catholic. His dad Kirk is the head coach and it's been that way for all four of Kobe's years on varsity.
Kobe says he's held up to a high standard but even when his dad is at his most critical, Kobe says he's still grateful of all the extra time they get to spend together
"It means the world to me, really," Kobe explains. "Just being around him for all this time. It brings us closer together and we just share all these memories together."
Kobe has a 3.7 GPA. He thinks he might go to GRCC where he'll have an opportunity to continue his basketball career.
