GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — If it’s a sport involving a net, there’s a good chance that’s where you’re going to find this week’s Meijer Scholar Athlete.
Lauren Tietz is a senior at West Catholic where she stars on both the Falcons volleyball and tennis teams. Granted there’s extra equipment when it comes to the latter, but the 17-year-old says the same skill set is needed to succeed in both sports. It’s all about action and reaction.
“I think it does help me," she says of playing both sports. "Even in life, knowing you can’t decide what other people are going to do. You just have to react and work with what you got.”
Tietz has a 4.2 GPA. She plans to study speech pathology in college.
