NORTON SHORES, Mich. — This week's Meijer Scholar Athlete isn't afraid of chasing down her dreams.
Growing up, Sophia Fisher aspired to play on the Mona Shores soccer team. She ended up exceeding her own expectations by becoming team captain.
Now in the middle of her third and final season with the Sailors, the 18-year-old senior is ready to embark on her goal of becoming a dermatologist. It's a field she became interested in when she watched her grandmother battle skin cancer.
"If I could be the change and help people be more preventative towards skin cancer, that's a goal I wish to achieve," said Fisher.
Fisher has a 4.4 GPA. She is headed to Michigan next fall where she plans to study biology.
