DETROIT — Monday night Detroit Lions fans flocked to Ford Field to watch the Lions take on the Seattle Seahawks.
Some fans told 13 ON YOUR SIDE they had even taken the day off work to come out and tailgate before kickoff at 8:15 p.m.
One fan, Joe Martinez, is well known amongst the fandom, despite only becoming a Lions fan in recent years.
In 2017 Martinez made the move to Michigan from Chicago. He quickly found a love for the Motor City team and adopted them as his team of choice.
Every game day, Martinez can be found walking the streets with a face coated in blue makeup, decked out head to toe in Lions gear.
"It's a huge hit," said Martinez. "Everybody loves it."
Martinez said it takes him just 10-15 minutes to apply the infamous makeup, a ritual that began in the team's 2023 season when former Lions safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson put out calls to fans to start showing up to games with blue ski masks to represent the new "Villain Era."
Martinez took it a step further, painting his whole face. And this year, he added in some black to go along with the Lions new uniforms.
The new uniforms were worn for the first time in Monday night's game, much darker than their usual Honolulu blue.
"We had a black uniform in our closet years ago in, you know, during that time, Kelvin Johnson, Dan Campbell, our head coach, played for the team, and we're really fond of them," said Lions Senior Vice President, Marketing and Brand, Emily Griffin.
Those uniforms were known as the "Motor City Muscle" uniforms.
"The shoulder stripes carry over the same striping convention of our Home and Away uniform, and that striping actually mimics the Hood, Hood striping on a Ford Shelby, which is a cool little little nod to kind of our heritage here," said Griffin.
A heritage fans continued to enjoy Monday night as the Lions took down the Seahawks, 42-29.
