DETROIT — The injuries keep piling up for the Detroit Lions. On Sunday, Lions RB David Montgomery, CB Khalil Dorsey, CB Carlton Davis and DT Alim McNeill all were injured during Detroit's 48-42 loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Montgomery initially left the game in the second quarter but later returned to the game. The last snap that Montgomery played was with 10:34 left in the fourth quarter, according to Next Gen Stats.
Montgomery suffered a torn MCL in the game Sunday, NFL.com reported. The full extent of the injury isn't known yet, but it could be season-ending, according to Ian Rapaport of NFL.com.
The Lions already have a banged-up defense with 13 players on the defensive side of the ball listed on injured reserve ahead of Sunday's game against the Bills.
Now, Montgomery (torn MCL), Dorsey (leg fracture), Davis (broke jaw) and McNeill (torn ACL) all have injuries that could have them out for extended periods of time.
Montgomery signed a two-year extension with the Lions this year and might not be able to take the field again until 2025.
The veteran back is part of the Lions' two-headed threat in running backs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery—affectionately dubbed "Sonic and Knuckles"—that have helped the Lions have two breakout seasons this year and last.
With Montgomery out, Gibbs will likely take more snaps while Craig Reynolds and rookie Sione Vaki could step up and get some reps as well.
The Lions sit at 12-2 with a playoff spot already clinched, but the division title is still up for grabs with an 11-2 Minnesota Vikings team set to play the 4-9 Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football.
The Lions still have two division games left on their schedule, playing the Chicago Bears on Sunday, Dec. 22 and the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, Jan. 5.
