LAS VEGAS — 1996 Muskegon Catholic Central High School graduate David Glover, Jr. is going to the Super Bowl again with the Kansas City Chiefs.
"It never gets to the point where you are used to it," Glover said. "You never get used to this."
The Kansas City Chiefs' first assistant athletic trainer has been with the organization since 2006 and he's proud of his team.
"It's more gratifying to get back to this point because instead of people expecting us to get here, people are more shocked that we are here," Glover said.
However, he's as nervous as ever ahead of the big game.
"The butterflies go up about 10 octaves when you get into single elimination in the playoffs," Glover said.
Despite the nerves, a potential third Super Bowl ring in four years is in the cards as the Chiefs are on the verge of a dynasty.
However, Glover always envisioned joining a different dynasty. He wanted to work as a trainer for the Chicago Bulls after their run in the 90s.
"My younger self would have said, 'Nah, we ain't going the football route. We are doing basketball,'" Glover said. "I don't think my younger self would have appreciated how far we have come where we are now."
Glover's current 45-year-old self makes sure he enjoys these good times.
"You want to be able to take that time and take that second with everybody up on the podium to soak it all in," Glover said. "Almost like a movie, it all slows down for a second. I think so far I have been able to do it."
He knows how rare of a ride this has been.
"This doesn't happen all of the time," Glover said. "This isn't something that is an annual passage for the Chiefs to go to the Super Bowl."
Glover hopes the Chiefs' journey to Super Bowl 58 serves as a message that anything is possible.
"No matter how much doubt or disbelief that people place on the things that you feel in your dreams and the things that you want to accomplish, all you've gotta do is put faith in God and keep putting one foot in front of the other," Glover said.
