GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - West Michigan's boys of winter are back.
The Grand Rapids Griffins make their home debut Friday night when they welcome the Hershey Bears to Van Andel Arena.
Thursday, Oct. 11 on 13 On Your Side Mornings, we spoke with first year head coach Ben Simon whose team enters the home opener 0-2 after dropping their first two games of the season on the road at San Antonio and Texas.
Simon's 2018-19 squad features a team filled with young talent, including Detroit Red Wings 2018 first round draft pick Filip Zadina.
The 18-year-old was the sixth overall selection in this summer's NHL Draft and is the highest Wings draft pick to ever play for the Griffins.
As of Thursday morning, a limited number of tickets are available for Friday night's game as the Griffins look to continue their home opener sellout streak.
They have sold out each of their previous 22 home openers in franchise history.
