GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — It has been a special season for the Griffins as Grand Rapids is playoff-bound for the first time in five years.
A big reason for that is the talent in between the pipes for the Griffins.
Grand Rapids goalie Sebastian Cossa has been nothing short of dominant this season.
The 2021 first-round pick has a save percentage of .912, which is good enough to rank 16th in the American Hockey League. He is just one of five rookies ranked in the top 16 in terms of save percentage in the league.
Cossa also just broke a 13-year-old franchise record. The Griffins have now scored a point in the 21-year-old's last 16 games in net.
However, he's not taking credit for it.
"It's cool," Cossa said. "Obviously, a lot of that goes to the team. We've been playing a lot better hockey since January. It's cool to see those kind of records be broken for sure."
The 15th overall pick also ranks 14th in the AHL in goals per game, giving up an average of 2.53 scores per contest.
"When you are having success, I think the personal accolades happen," Griffins head coach Dan Watson said. "Good for Coss. He's given us chances to win and stay in games through those 16 games."
Cossa and the Griffins still have 11 games left remaining in the regular season. Grand Rapids has a tilt with the Chicago Wolves on the road on Friday night. Puck drop is set for 8 p.m. Eastern.
