FOWLERVILLE, Mich. — A Fowlerville native is on his way to Paris as a member of the 2024 U.S. wrestling team.

Adam Coon, 29, won the 130-kilogram Greco-Roman championship in the 2024 U.S. Team Olympic Trials.

He won the Olympic Trials three years ago as well, but his weight class wasn't qualified to represent the U.S. in Tokyo.

Coon has a wealth of athletic experience, playing numerous sports during school and throughout his professional career.

In high school, he lettered in football and track and field. He was also a state runner-up in discus and shot put.

Coon attended the University of Michigan from 2013-2018 where he received a bachelor's and master's degree in aerospace, aeronautical and astronautical/space engineering.

During his time wrestling at the University of Michigan, Coon was a two-time NCAA finalist and three-time All-American.

At one point in his career, Coon gave up wrestling to pursue an NFL career and signed with the Tennessee Titans. However, he was injured before training camp in 2021.

He was also a former professional football player for the Seattle Sea Dragons of the XFL.

Coon returned to his wrestling career in 2023.

His world championship experience includes:

  • 2019 Senior Worlds (21st at 130 kg), 2018 Senior Worlds (Silver at 130 kg)
  • 2014 Junior World Championships (Bronze in Greco-Roman and men's freestyle at 130 kg)
  • 2011 Cadet World Championships (Gold in men's freestyle and 11th in Greco-Roman at 100 kg)

Olympic wrestling matches will be held in Paris from Monday, Aug. 5 through Sunday, Aug. 11.
