Through the heat and sun, nearly 3,000 Special Olympians competed in the Special Olympics Michigan State Summer Games in Mt. Pleasant this afternoon.
The athletes competed in dozens of sports such as bocce ball, track and field, swimming, gymnastics and power lifting.
Many of the athletes are from West Michigan and say they look forward to the camaraderie of the other athletes just as much as the competition itself.
The events begin back up Saturday morning at 8 AM and admission is free for any and all fans that want to come and cheer on the athletes.
