GRAND RAPIDS, Mich — Comcast is offering free internet services, pausing data caps and suspending service disconnections and late fees while millions of people are impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak.
The company has now opened Xfinity WiFi hotspots across the country to anyone who might need them for free — including non-Xfinity internet customers.
"During this extraordinary time, it is vital that as many Americans as possible stay connected to the internet – for education, work, and personal health reasons,” said Comcast's CEO Dave Watson.
For the next 60 days, Comcast will not only offer free WiFi but they will be pausing data caps and plans and they will not disconnect a customer's internet services or charge late fees. According to the announcement, customers just need to contact the company with why they can't pay their bills during this time frame.
Tech experts say the U.S. internet won't have any trouble handling spikes in traffic from the millions of Americans who are working and going to school from home to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
