A local-tech based community organization, most recently known as the National Science Institute, has announced that it will cease all public operations starting Monday, Dec. 31.
Chris Boden, the director of the institute posted the news to Facebook Monday morning. The National Science Institute, located at 902 Leonard St NW, has been in operation for 24 years.
According to Boden's post, the organization faces several thousands dollars in debt and are unable to sustain operations anymore.
Earlier this month, the organization underwent a raid by federal agents. Monday's Facebook post said the raid was "that last straw, the nuclear PR hit" that pushed the National Science Institute over the edge.
The organization has stopped billing, all memberships have been placed on hold and future bookings and events have been locked down so that no one is charged for memberships they're unable to use.
Boden says they will be hosting a "going out of business sale" on the various computers, hard drives and various other tech accessories. The National Science Institute is open from noon until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The sale will be cash only and in the form of a silent auction.
