HOLLAND, Mich. — Over the weekend a crash in Holland left one dead and another seriously injured when a boat trailer broke free, striking the two pedestrians.

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office said the crash happened in the area of Quincy and 140th just after 3 p.m. Sunday.

A 44-year-old Holland man driving a 2004 GMC was pulling a pontoon boat on a trailer when it broke free and left the road.

Deputies said the boat and trailer went off the road and struck two people walking on a bike path nearby.

The two pedestrians were trapped under the boat and trailer before first responders were able to get them free.

One pedestrian, a 62-year-old from Holland, passed away from their injuries. The other pedestrian, a 38-year-old from Holland, was brought to a nearby hospital by Aero Med.

The area of Quincy and 140th was shut down for some time while the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office investigated and while crews cleaned up the scene.
