65-year-old woman seriously injured after car struck by semi in Ottawa County

The driver of the semi was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured. However, the driver of the Hyundai was not wearing a seatbelt and was brought to an area hospital.

OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. — Around 9:00 p.m. Thursday night, the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene of a crash involving a car and a semi-truck in the southbound lanes of US-31 North of Hayes St. at the turnaround.

Officers were alerted beforehand that there was an injured person on scene.

After arriving on the scene investigators determined the semi, driven by a 43-year-old Indiana man, was using the turnaround to proceed South on US-31.

The man pulled into the southbound lanes to complete his turn and was struck in the trailer portion by a southbound Hyundai.

A 65-year-old Grand Haven woman was driving the Hyundai. The driver of the semi was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured. However, the driver of the Hyundai was not wearing a seatbelt and was brought to a nearby hospital.

As of 10:37 p.m. lanes had reopened according to Ottawa County Dispatch.
