An Amish family's buggy was completely destroyed after a traffic accident with a pickup truck leaving some of the family injured.
According to Isabella County Sheriff's Office, the driver of the pickup truck, 26-year-old Joshua Hougton of Blanchard, was traveling eastbound on Blanchard Road in Rolland Township when he struck the buggy on Thursday morning.
The family of seven has been identified as Anna Shrock, 20; Anna Shrock, 71; Lydiann Shrock, 44; Lydia Miller, 20; Samuel Shrock, 43; March Shrock, 4; and Paul Shrock, 1.
Authorities say multiple family members sustained injuries, including possible internal injuries and external fractures. All seven family members were transported to Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids. The current condition of those who were injured is not immediately known.
Responders on the scene did called for an AeroMed helicopter, but the family refused it.
The horse was transported from the scene by horse trailer and Pol Veterinary Services in Weidman was contacted in regards to a possible leg or foot injury.
In the news release from the sheriff's office, they say Hougton's windshield was unclear and frosted over, the direction of the sun and the hilly area were all factors in the crash. Hougton's truck suffered significant damage -- the family's buggy is a complete loss.
It is unclear if Hougton is will face any charges, the crash remains under investigation.
