OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. — Heads up, drivers! You can expect lane closures on parts of the I-196 Business Loop until November as the highway gets rebuilt.
Construction on about four miles of the Business Loop between Holland and Zeeland begins on Saturday, April 13. Crews will be working to resurface asphalt, repair concrete joints, add new signs, work on traffic signals and install new guardrail.
The eastbound lanes of the I-196 Business Loop will be closed from April 13 until August. Then, the westbound lanes will close from August until late November.
The closures will be between US-31 in Holland to 88th Avenue in Zeeland.
During construction, traffic will be detoured to 16th Street/Adams Street. The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) said access to businesses will not be impacted by this construction.
This $17 million project is anticipated to bring nearly 250 jobs to Ottawa County. Transportation officials hope the rebuilding will improve the driving experience and extended the life of this area of the Business Loop.
For more information, visit the MDOT website here. The department posts updated information on construction projects.
