ROCKFORD, Mich. — The City of Rockford is welcoming a new development to its downtown area. Construction on Hotel Rose is scheduled to begin this summer on Main Street between Maple and Bridge.
Hotel Rose will be the only hotel in the Rockford area. It will also bring two new restaurant options and two new retail spaces.
The city said they conducted a parking study in 2019 to look at existing parking downtown and also project how the development of a hotel and retail spaces could impact parking in the area.
The city said the parking lot across the street from the hotel will likely be used for hotel guests. However, it will also remain a public parking lot and will be available for use by the public based on hotel occupancy.
The study the city conducted determined that during peak times a few of the parking lots in the downtown area do reach capacity. However, most of them do not. The lots that do not reach capacity are still usually within a city block of the center of the downtown shopping district.
"Since this study was completed, we have added additional way finding signs to direct the public to the 800+ free public parking spaces we have available, added additional 15-minute parking spaces for quick trips into our local businesses, and added additional accessible parking spaces located throughout the downtown," read a post on the city's Facebook page.
The city said they also plan to add more parking to the downtown area through future projects. Those projects include reconfiguring the existing Towers Parking lot and the Krause Memorial Library expansion.
They said they also plan to add additional accessible parking spaces to the Garden Club Park renovation, slated to begin this summer.
