BYRON CENTER, Mich. — Heads up, drivers! More construction is set to begin on US-131 next week and will last into next year.
Beginning on Monday, May 6, US-131 between 76th Street and 100th Street will see lane and ramp closures due to construction.
The $70 million project will extend the 76th Street on-ramp to the 84th Street off-ramp on southbound US-131. It will also extend the 84th Street on-ramp to the 76th Street off-ramp on northbound US-131.
This change is expected to increase safety on this three-mile portion of US-131 and extend the life of the highway.
It is slated to wrap up by the end of November 2025.
The funding for this project mostly comes from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's Rebuilding Michigan program, which aims to repair portions of the state's busiest highways and bridges.
About 1,000 jobs are expected to be created through this construction.
