OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. — A 4-year-old boy is in critical condition after he was thrown from a van on I-196 Tuesday evening.
The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office said a two-car crash involving a Toyota sedan and Dodge van crashed on I-196 eastbound near Adams Street around 5:40 p.m. in Holland Township.
The van's driver, a 45-year-old from Holland, and the 30-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries.
Two children, a 3-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy were in the van when it rolled, authorities said.
The 3-year-old girl wasn't hurt, but the 4-year-old was ejected and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
The other driver involved in the sedan, a 42-year-old, wasn't hurt.
The highway was shut down for more than three hours while emergency responders tended to the scene. It has since reopened.
Investigators are still looking into the details leading up to the crash, and they're asking any witnesses to call Ottawa County Central Dispatch at 1-800-249-0911 or Silent Observer at 877-88-SILENT.
