GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A three-car crash on northbound US 131 between I-96 and West River Drive injured three drivers Monday morning.
Michigan State Police (MSP) from the Grand Rapids Post said they believe a pickup truck rear-ended two other vehicles on the road stuck in slow traffic.
That pickup truck then went off the road and overturned, MSP said.
Medics rushed the 55-year-old pickup truck driver from Comstock Park to the hospital with serious injuries.
The other two drivers had minor injuries, police said.
Law enforcement said the road is down to one lane, but the crash should be cleared up shortly.
The Walker Fire Department responded and said there was a large debris field.
The northbound US 131 ramp to I-96 and M-37 is now closed for a months-long construction project.
According to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), the closure is taking place for a $6 million project to rebuild the two-lane ramp connecting northbound US-131 to I-96 and M-37 (Alpine Avenue).
MDOT said the detour will continue north on US-131 where drivers can exit at West River Drive (Exit 91) and enter southbound US-131 to access I-96 and M-37.
During the closure, MDOT said the left two lanes of northbound US-131 will also be closed between Ann Street and I-96.
