GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A Cedar Springs man is dead after a car struck and killed him near an I-196 ramp in Grand Rapids Wednesday morning.
Grand Rapids Post troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) said the crash happened just after 8:15 a.m. on the eastbound 196 ramp to East Beltline.
They said a 63-year-old man from Cedar Springs was walking in the gore of the roadway, which is the area between the ramp and the freeway.
A family member said the 63-year-old man, her father-in-law, was in the gore looking for tools that were needed to tow her husband's vehicle out of the area following an earlier crash.
While the man was searching, MSP said a 47-year-old Grand Rapids woman was driving on the ramp when she lost control and struck the man.
The man was brought to the hospital where he died from his injuries. The woman wasn't hurt.
MSP said they are continuing to investigate the crash.
