GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Gas prices in West Michigan are on the decline, according to GasBuddy. The average gas price in Grand Rapids on Monday is $3.16 per gallon, which is a 16-cent decrease since last week.

This drop is also nearly 8 cents cheaper than a month ago and 33 cents cheaper than this time last year.

The national average gas price is sitting at $3.57 per gallon, which GasBuddy said is the lowest national average since January.

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said prices have climbed slightly due to Iran's attack on Israel, which he said is "expected." Meanwhile, Hurricane Milton impacting Florida has not led to an increase in gas prices.

De Haan said the decrease is expected to continue.

"With oil prices recently starting to fall again, the rise we saw could end before you know it," De Haan said. "And with restoration happening in Florida, we could start to see a decline in gas prices in the weeks ahead, with a good chance of seeing the first sub-$3 per gallon national average since 2021."

Other areas in Michigan are seeing this decrease. GasBuddy's map of average gas prices by county show that prices are generally lower in West and southwest Michigan, while prices are higher on the east side of the state and in the Upper Peninsula.

If you're looking for the lowest gas prices in your area, you're encouraged to shop around. Gas prices can vary widely in the same city—for example, GasBuddy reported that the cheapest gas in Grand Rapids on Sunday was $2.86 per gallon, while the highest was $3.33 per gallon.
