BYRON CENTER, Mich. — The Michigan Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting Tuesday evening about the 100th Street bridge replacement.
The 100th Street bridge is an overpass that was hit by at least eight semi-trucks back in 2018. MDOT made some temporary fixes, but the entire bridge will be replaced this year.
MDOT is investing approximately $10.5 million to remove and replace the original 100th Street bridge over US-131 in Byron Township and reconstruct the interchange, which won't include any roundabouts according to plans released in 2019. There will be turning lanes and the bridge will be raised two feet to make any future collisions will tall trucks unlikely.
Work is expected to take place this month and the new bridge is expected to open to traffic around Labor Day.
The meeting will take place Tuesday, March 10 at 3:30 p.m. at the Kent County Road Commission building, located at 131 84th St. SW.
During the meeting, MDOT officials will provide project details, scheduling and traffic information. The public is invited to stop by anytime during the meeting to learn more about the project and provide comments.
