MSP trooper dies following serious accident while on duty

The Michigan State Police Trooper died from injuries sustained in a crash this morning while on duty.

UPDATE: The 28-year-old trooper died from his injuries, Michigan State Police confirm. Tpr. Timothy O'Neill, of the Rockford Post, passed away after he sustained serious injuries in an on-duty crash Wednesday morning.

O'Neill is survived by his mother, father, brother, sister and fiance. O'Neill was set to be married on Oct. 7, 2017.

“It is with a very heavy heart that I confirm the death of one of our own, Tpr. Timothy O’Neill,” stated Col. Kriste Kibbey Etue, director of the MSP. “I ask that you please keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers in the difficult days ahead.”

KENT COUNTY, Mich. - A Michigan State Police trooper is undergoing surgery after sustaining serious injuries following a traffic crash that occurred at Wolverine Boulevard and Belding Road.

The trooper was on duty riding a motorcycle when he was involved in the accident.

Michigan State Police is now investigating the incident.
