ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. — Part of M-40 Highway is closed following a crash involving an SUV and a tractor pulling a hay ride, the Allegan County Sheriff's Office said.

The crash happened around 7:30 p.m. Saturday and the road was closed shortly afterward.

Deputies said a preliminary investigation shows that an SUV was traveling south on M-40 Highway near 110th Avenue in Trowbridge Township. That SUV struck a tractor pulling a hay ride with multiple people riding on the trailer.

Deputies said that several injuries were reported from the occupants of the hay ride and all of the injured were taken to hospitals for treatment. The SUV had two passengers besides the driver, and all three were also injured in the crash.

The Allegan County Sheriff's Office believes that alcohol and speed were a factor in the crash.

The names of the victims and SUV driver will not be released until the notification of family and friends and arraignment, the Allegan County Sheriff's Office said in a release.

The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Allegan City Police Department, Pine Grove Fire Department, LIFE EMS, MDOT, Plainwell EMS, the Allegan County Accident Reconstruction Team, and Allegan Central Dispatch.

The crash remains under investigation.
