Ottawa County car crash kills one, injures another

OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. — A single-vehicle crash in Ottawa County killed one and injured another Saturday.

The incident happened just after 7 p.m. on 8th Avenue north of Lake Michigan Drive. Preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle, which had two occupants, was traveling south on 8th Avenue when it drifted off the roadway and struck a large tree.

Upon arrival, deputies from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office found both occupants – a Grand Rapids woman, 39, and a Benton Harbor man, 26 – pinned in the car. Fire/Rescue extracted both occupants and began life saving measures; both sustained injuries, with one party’s injuries being fatal.

Names are being withheld pending notification of family. The crash remains under investigation.
