MICHIGAN, USA — Michigan has several counties that rank among the worst for intoxicated drivers, according to a new study.

Scott Vicknair Law Firm used data from the National Highway Safety Traffic Administration to find the counties in America that have the highest rates for fatal crashes involving intoxicated drivers.

The study compared the total number of fatal crashes and the total number of fatal crashes where the driver was under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medications between 2017 and 2021.

When comparing the data, the researchers found that four Michigan counties were ranked among the top 30 in the country.

Tuscola, Van Buren, Calhoun and Mason counties all had more than 25% of the fatal crashes linked to drivers being intoxicated.

Between the time period studied, Tuscola County had the highest rate of fatal crashes involving intoxicated drivers at 29.58%, followed by Van Buren County with 29.13%, Calhoun County with 28.15% and finally Mason County with 25.49%.
