MICHIGAN, USA — Parades to grilling to fireworks—summer is in full swing with Independence Day this Thursday! With many festivities outdoors, all eyes are on the weather. Thankfully, the forecast is trending nicely for the Fourth of July itself.

FOURTH OF JULY FORECAST

Scattered showers and possibly an isolated thunderstorm are expected the second half of Tuesday into Wednesday morning before a cold front sweeps West Michigan by midday. This will lead to improving conditions as Wednesday goes on, with many enjoying clear skies by the end of the day. Temperatures on Tuesday will settle in the 70s to lower 80s, with many in the lower 80s on Wednesday.

Mainly dry conditions will continue on the Fourth of July, with partly cloudy skies expected. There is the chance for an isolated pop-shower/weak storm in the afternoon. This would mainly happen east of US-131 and chances are low. Temperatures will be warm, but close to seasonable, as daytime temperatures climb into the lower to middle 80s.

As typical this time of year, the immediate lakeshore may be slightly cooler, settling in the upper 70s. Plan on the humidity returning to some degree Thursday as dew point temperatures rise into the 60s, which is when it becomes noticeably muggy for West Michigan standards.

There is also a low-end possibility of an isolated shower or storm near I-94 to the state line. The trend, however, is for any thunderstorm development to remain across the Ohio River Valley throughout Thursday.

Friday presents the greatest rain and thunderstorm chance across the region as a stronger low-pressure system sweeps through the Great Lakes. Severe weather remains a non-zero possibility, all dependent on the timing of the attendant cold front.

UP NORTH FORECAST

Confidence is increasing for pleasant summer conditions on the Fourth of July across Northern Lower Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. Temperatures across N. Lower Michigan will be like West Michigan – daytime highs in the lower to middle 80s, with 70s for the immediate lakeshore. Temperatures will mostly settle in the 70s across the Upper Peninsula. The entirety of ‘Up North’ is expected to be under partly cloudy skies.
