Colder than average temperatures have been a trend for several weeks across West Michigan. October 2019 in Grand Rapids was more than one degree above average and the coldest October since 2009.
November will likely continue this trend. The latest eight to 14-day temperature outlook from the Climate Prediction Center keeps the Great Lakes region and West Michigan cooler than normal. Anytime West Michigan is dealing with cold air this early in the season, it's usually accompanied by at least a round or two of lake-effect snow.
It might be a good time to make sure the snowblower is in good working order and that shovel is in decent shape. In a typical November, Grand Rapids receives around seven inches of snow. Considering the long-range outlook keeps West Michigan cold, we can count on higher than normal snowfall amounts.
