GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Time to battle the heat! Stepping outside will feel like a sauna for the next two days.
Feels like temperatures will read in the low 100s today and tomorrow. This has caused the National Weather Service to issue a Heat Advisory starting at noon today until 10 p.m. Wednesday for the counties highlighted in orange. Although, even the counties not under the heat advisories will still be experiencing very hot conditions for the next 48 hours.
Temperatures will be warmest from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. During this timeframe, you should limit time spent outdoors, find a cool spot, stay hydrated and check on vulnerable populations, such as the elderly, children and pets.
There will be little relief during the overnight hours with lows remaining in the 70s. Then temperatures spike right back into the 90s, feeling like the low 100s, Wednesday afternoon.
Here are other ways that you can beat the heat:
If you typically work outside, consider rescheduling if possible. If this is not possible, try to work during the early morning hours or the evening hours.
It's also important to know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible. If you feel you are experiencing signs of a heat stroke or heat exhaustion, call 911.
The heat will come to end following a brief period of thunderstorms Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Then temperatures return towards seasonable averages with relatively quiet conditions.
