Red flag warnings issued for Tuesday

Warm temperatures, low humidity, breezy conditions and dry vegetation lead to an increased risk of fires spreading.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Our sunny and dry stretch continues across West Michigan and while this weather has been enjoyable, it's bringing high fire risk to portions of the area.

This comes from a combination of warm temperatures, low relative humidity and breezy conditions interacting with our dry vegetation, possibly leading to extreme fire behavior. Winds are expected to shift NW at 8 to 18 mph, with relative humidity levels in the 20s and afternoon highs in the low to mid-70s.

This has caused the National Weather Service to issue a Fire Weather Warning (Red flag warning) until 8 p.m. Tuesday.

This is for the following counties shaded in pink: Lake, Osceola, Clare, Newaygo, Mecosta, Isabella, Montcalm, Gratiot, Kent, Ionia and Clinton.

Please limit activities that could cause a wildfire. That includes things like camping, using outdoor grills, smoking, using chainsaws or anything that could spark a fire.
