Record daily rainfall set Thursday in Grand Rapids

Multiple locations across West Michigan set a new weather record yesterday.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Talk about a washout yesterday!

Grand Rapids, Holland and Battle Creek set new daily rainfall records for Feb. 9. It was also Grand Rapids' rainiest day since Aug. 13.

A widespread half-inch to over an inch was seen across the region. Right here in Walker, at 13 ON YOUR SIDE, we recorded the most rainfall at 1.30". Other impressive totals came out of Battle Creek at 1.21" and Kentwood at 1.11".

Afternoon high temperatures made it into the mid-40s, keeping the main precipitation type as rainfall, rather than our usual snow for mid-February.

As this system exits the region, we will continue to see cloud coverage Friday. Winds will also be consistent out of the W-NW, keeping our temperatures in the low to mid-30s, the coldest airmass we've seen this week.

But this cooldown will be short-lived as sunshine and milder temperatures return to this weekend's forecast. Completely sunny skies are expected both Saturday and Sunday.

Sunshine will continue into early next week, but the forecast flips by this time next week. Winter air sinks back into place and accumulating snowfall looks possible Thursday into Friday. This system also looks to bring windy conditions. We will continue to track it closely in the coming days.
