GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Halloween was pretty scary in West Michigan this year as heavy, wet snow fell from late-morning through early evening, hitting the lakeshore areas hardest.
Several viewers sent in photos showing snowfall amounts up to 10''.

Several areas along the lakeshore recorded over 8" of snow. Here are the totals reported to the National Weather Service - Grand Rapids as of 11:30 pm.
Record Snowfall
In Muskegon, the snowfall total as of 8 pm was 8.8'', a record for October 31, and the second-highest, single-day amount prior to November 15. (On November 14, 1908 Muskegon received 16.0".)
Prior to this year, heavy snow also fell on Halloween in 1954 and in 1917, according to National Weather Service, Grand Rapids.
Power Outages
The heavy, wet snow accumulating on the leaves of many trees still waiting to shed them this autumn caused limbs to break and fall on power lines, leading to widespread outages Muskegon County.
As of 8:30 pm Tuesday, over 36,000 Consumers Energy customers were without power.
