GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — After two days of small hail and graupel (with a select few who may have seen a legitimate snowflake) here in West Michigan, many are starting to wonder how much longer before the first snowfall of the year arrives for the rest of us. The bad news for those still holding onto the idea of warmer weather, it could come as soon as Monday!
Ever since last weekend we have begun to see the signs of snow entering the forecast here in West Michigan. Those signs stayed consistent all week long, and now a mix of rain and snow is in the forecast for both this coming Monday and Tuesday.
However this doesn't mean you need to make a run on the bread and the milk just yet. Any impacts should be minimal to none, and surface temps will be above freezing most all of time.
While this snowfall may seem way too early for many, we are actually right on track for average first snows here in West Michigan. In Grand Rapids our average first trace of snow comes on Oct. 26, with the first average measurable snowfall (0.1" or higher) coming on Nov. 7.
While snow on Monday would be a bit before average, and well before our first snows last year, it is certainly not unprecedented. As of now any accumulation should be minimal and short lived here in West Michigan, but you may certainly need to watch for slick bridges and overpasses as we head through Monday morning and again Monday night through early Tuesday.
If you catch any photos or video of snow early next week be sure to email them to Weather@13OnYourSide.com or post it to our 13OnYourSide Facebook Page!
