GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. —
Lack of Rain
Since April 6, barely two inches of rain has fallen in Grand Rapids, when nearly ten inches is the average, almost 80% less than usual. This has led to the least amount of rain from April 6 through June 18.
For over four months, from February 9 through June 7 the total daily precipitation for the year was above average, showing how wet the beginning of the year and how long it took to dry out.
Impacts from Lack of Rain
In the last thirty days West Michigan has received only five to ten percent of the usual amount.
This has led to increased drought conditions with West Michigan now in the Moderate Drought category.
What's Ahead
The 10-day forecast calls for increasing chances for rain perhaps Friday and/or Sunday but the highest chances will likely be in the last three to five days this June.
