It's snowing in Michigan's Upper Peninsula because of course

Winter is coming.

(Yes, we know you knew that, just let us use the Game of Thrones reference, okay?)

The National Weather Service office in Marquette posted on Facebook this morningabout a "light accumulation of wet snow" that's dropping in areas of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, including Negaunee Township.

"It's snowing here at the National Weather Service office in Negaunee Township at 415 AM EDT," the NWS said. "A light accumulation of wet snow has occurred on vehicles and grass so far. A slushy inch or two of snow accumulation may occur across the higher terrain in parts of west and north central Upper Michigan early this morning."

The NWS office in Gaylord also reports some light snowfall at the Straits of Mackinac this morning, with temperatures around 40 degrees.

Can't we let the fall colors pass first before we get to this? Of course not, this is Michigan. And we can't have nice things like fall for the normal 3 months out of the year.

Those of you in southeast Michigan, don't worry, the snow isn't even close to getting here (check back tomorrow when this forecast inevitably changes): The weekend forecast in Detroit calls for a high of 81 degrees on Saturday and 66 on Sunday, albeit with a few thunderstorms, according to weather.com.

The early prognosis on next week is temperatures in the upper 70's and maybe even lower 80's in Detroit, then a drop around Thursday or Friday to highs in the upper 50's and lower 60's.

You know, actual fall weather.
