GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Have you noticed a pink DASH bus around town? It used to be Grand Rapids' Downtown Area Shuttle, but it's recently gone through some serious rebranding.
The DASH will not only offer a new sleek look, but expanded services like later hours, weekend rides and more convenient routes -- all for free start Monday, August 27.
According to city officials, the weekend service is a first for the DASH, which has been operating the streets of downtown Grand Rapids for 20 years.
The late-night rides will be in service until 1 a.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Pickups are scheduled to take place ever eight minutes during normal operating hours at the multiple stops along two DASH routes: DASH West and DASH North.
The DASH BUS continues its free service for the community -- no tickets or passes required.
According to the city's Mobile GR-Parking Services Department Manager, Josh Naramore, the changes are aimed at increasing ridership and accessibility.
“With later hours and weekend service, the DASH becomes accessible to second-shift workers and more downtown visitors and residents,” Naramore said. “This makes it easier for people coming downtown for a night out or to run errands to park once and ride.”
