GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Memorial Day is the unofficial kickoff to summer and the weather can vary quite a bit from year to year. This year, the weather looks very favorable for all outdoor activities — although Lake Michigan will be mighty chilly for anything other than dipping your toes.

After a cool Thursday, the temperatures begin warming up Friday, reaching the upper 70s across the state, but cooler along the shoreline, especially in the eastern U.P. Bright, sunny skies are expected as the wildfire haze was swept out of the region with Thursday's cold front.

Temperatures continue slowly climbing Saturday into the upper 70s to around 80° across Lower Michigan and well into the 70s most of the U.P. Along the Lake Michigan shoreline in the eastern U.P. and NW Lower Michigan, temperatures will be in the 60s. Sunny, blue skies continue with no chance for rain.

Temperatures break into the 80s Sunday across most of Lower Michigan and around 80° most of the U.P. Along the Lake Michigan shoreline in the eastern U.P. and NW Lower Michigan, temperatures will be around 70°. Some wildfire haze will briefly return to the region, but the chances for rain remain zero.

Temperatures climb into the mid 80s Monday across most of Lower Michigan and the low 80s across most of the U.P. Along the Lake Michigan shoreline in the eastern U.P. and NW Lower Michigan, temperatures will be in the 70s. Skies will be partly sunny to mostly cloudy with no rain expected once again.
