GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan — West Michigan is currently experiencing one of the warmest years on record, according to the U.S. National Weather Service Grand Rapids (NWS) post.
The NWS shared Wednesday that the first half of 2024 has been one of the warmest in over 125 years of records. They say that every month this year, from January through June, has been warmer than average.
While there have still be days and weeks when it got cold, the warmer than average days have outweighed the colder ones, the NWS explained in a Facebook post.
The NWS pointed out that February of 2024 was the warmest February of all time, and Feb. 27, 2024 was the warmest day ever recorded during the months of December, January or February.
The 2023-24 winter was also the warmest ever recorded over the months of December, January or February, the NWS reported.
Spring 2024 also proved to be well above average for temperatures, ranking among the top five warmest springs on record, according to the NWS.
And despite the record warmth so far this year, Grand Rapids saw its snowiest January in 10 years. The NWS says that "big snows can still happen on the days it gets cold enough!"
